The Orio Flag regatta, one of the most recognisable competitions in the world of rowing, is happening this weekend.
We at SAGARDI Group are proud to announce that we are official sponsors of Orio Arraunketa Elkartea, a club with a rich history and a vibrant present in the rowing community.
Despite the town's small population of 6,000, this club leads the area in rowing competitions.
Since 1986, the club has represented quality and enthusiasm in rowing with an unrivalled tradition.
We are proud to support a team that has the sea in its blood and represents the spirit of our community!
As in the restaurant world, rowing requires dedication, teamwork and a strong sense of tradition. These are values that we also uphold at SAGARDI Group and that we see reflected in Orio Arraunketa Elkartea.
Aupa, Orio! Aupa, Txapeldunes!
This Saturday, August 3rd, we will give our full support to the men's and women's team competing for the Orio Flag, in which they will need to row three miles in order to win the flag and keep their position on the podium.
Do you know the origin of the competition?
In the Basque Country, long, thin boats called traineras were traditionally used for fishing and transporting goods. Over time, these boats evolved into competitive boats leading to the creation of "traineras" regattas. Originally held between different coastal towns, these tournaments have grown into highly prestigious sporting events, keeping the regions maritime legacy alive.
